Finding Data to Support Your Cause

Having ready access to current, accurate local-level data can make or break your grant proposal, case for giving, or planning process. Data sources are readily available and free on the Internet, but navigating the vast array of websites can be time-consuming and intimidating. This hands-on workshop, held in a computer lab, allows each student to find and explore recommended data sites. We’ll discuss guidelines for evaluating websites, and the instructors will guide the class in locating sites for local demographic and indicator data. There will be a strong emphasis on Census data; depending on class composition, other focus areas may include education, health, social supports, and/or housing.
